Downspout Cleaning & Clearing

A clean gutter that dead-ends into a clogged downspout still overflows. We clear the whole system — trough, outlet, and full length of the spout.

About This Service

What downspout cleaning actually looks like

Downspouts are where most gutter systems actually fail. Debris packs into the outlet at the top, or shingle grit and matted leaves settle at the elbow near the ground. From the yard everything looks fine — until the next storm shows you where the water actually goes.

Every gutter cleaning we do includes complete downspout clearing and a final system inspection so we know water is exiting at the bottom. When a spout is clogged, we clear it — snaking, working the outlet clear, or pulling the bottom elbow to move debris loose depending on the blockage.

If your gutters look clean but water still overflows in heavy rain, the downspouts are almost always the reason. We'll figure out which one is blocked, clear it, and verify flow before we call the job done.

What You Get

Every downspout cleaning job includes

  • Inspection of each downspout inlet at the gutter
  • Clearing of debris packed at outlets and elbows
  • Snaking or bottom-elbow removal on stubborn clogs
  • Final system inspection to confirm free flow
  • Recommendations if a spout needs an extension or splash block
Warning Signs

When to call us out

Any one of these is worth a look. Two or more usually means the problem's been quietly building.

Overflow only in heavy rain

Light rain flows fine, but a downpour spills over the front of the gutter — classic sign the downspout can't keep up.

Water pooling at the foundation

If the ground under a downspout is soggy or has a wash pattern, water may be backing up or not exiting the spout.

Gurgling or gulping sounds

Air fighting water in a partially blocked spout makes a distinctive glug. If you can hear it during rain, it's clogged.

Ice damming behind the gutter in winter

Water backed up in a clogged spout freezes and thaws — one of the fastest ways to loosen fascia and shingles.

Our Process

How the job actually happens

  1. 1

    Confirm the clog

We test each downspout so we know exactly which ones are blocked and where.

  2. 2

    Clear from the top

We clear the outlet at the gutter first — that's where most clogs sit.

  3. 3

    Snake or bottom-out

For stubborn clogs, we snake the spout or pop the bottom elbow to work debris out from below.

  4. 4

    Final inspection

We verify free flow through the whole system before moving on.

Honest Pricing

What this costs

Complete downspout clearing is included in every standard gutter cleaning. When downspout work is the only reason we're on-site — for example a single blocked spout after a storm — we quote it individually. Call or text and we'll give you an honest number.

FAQ

Common questions about downspout cleaning

Do you charge extra for downspout clearing during a cleaning?

+

No. Complete downspout clearing and a final system inspection are part of every gutter cleaning we do. If we find a serious blockage that needs snaking or bottom-elbow work, we'll tell you before we do it.

What if the clog is underground in the drain line?

+

Underground drain lines run past the gutter system and into the yard or curb. Those are outside our scope, but we'll tell you exactly where the water stops so a drain contractor can pick it up from there.

Can I clear a downspout myself?

+

Sometimes yes — a garden hose from the top with the elbow off at the bottom will clear light clogs. Packed leaf mats and shingle grit usually need to be worked out from the inside.
