Gutter Guard Removal

When a gutter-guard system stops working — foam saturated, mesh clogged, plastic warped — the gutter below can't be cleaned until the guards come off.

About This Service

What gutter guard removal actually looks like

Most gutter guards work well for a few seasons and then quietly stop. Foam inserts absorb water and pack full of grit. Cheap mesh sags in the middle and holds a mat of leaves on top. Plastic surface-tension guards warp in the sun and let debris ride right in.

Once a guard system fails, the gutter under it becomes almost impossible to clean without removing the guards first. We handle that removal cleanly — pulling the guards without damaging the gutter, hauling them away, and cleaning the gutter properly underneath.

We do not install replacement guards. If you want new guards installed after removal, we'll point you to a reputable local installer. Our lane is cleaning, not selling systems that need to be sold to you.

What You Get

Every gutter guard removal job includes

  • Careful removal of existing guards (foam, mesh, plastic, or metal)
  • Full professional cleaning of the gutter underneath (commercial vacuum equipment when appropriate)
  • Complete downspout clearing and final system inspection
  • Old guards hauled off the property
  • Before & after photos
  • Honest recommendation on whether replacement is worth it
Warning Signs

When to call us out

Any one of these is worth a look. Two or more usually means the problem's been quietly building.

Gutters overflowing despite guards

If water sheets over the front of the gutter during rain, the guards are diverting water past the trough — they've failed.

Debris packed on top of the guards

A visible leaf mat sitting on the guard means water is running over the top, not through it.

Guards look warped, sagging, or lifted

Heat, ice, and time all warp guard systems. Once they lift or sag, they stop working.

Plants growing on or through the guards

Seedlings on top of the guard system mean water and soil are trapped up there — the gutter beneath is likely worse.

Our Process

How the job actually happens

  1. 1

    Assess the guard type

We identify the system on your home and figure out the best way to lift or remove it without damaging the gutter or roof edge.

  2. 2

    Remove cleanly

We pull the guards section by section, keeping them intact where possible in case you want to keep any for reference.

  3. 3

    Clean the gutter

The gutter underneath usually has years of buildup. We clean it properly — using commercial vacuum equipment when the debris load makes sense for it — and haul off both the debris and the old guards.

  4. 4

    Inspect and photograph

Downspouts cleared, final system inspection completed, before & after photos sent, and a straight answer on whether you should reinstall guards or just stay on a maintenance schedule.

Honest Pricing

What this costs

Guard removal is quoted individually — the price depends on how many linear feet of guards are installed, what type, and how they're attached. Most jobs are a modest add-on to a standard cleaning.

We remove guards; we do not install new ones. If you want new guards after removal, we'll refer you to a trusted local installer.

FAQ

Common questions about gutter guard removal

Should I have gutter guards at all?

+

Depends on the home. On heavily wooded lots, no guard we've seen keeps up with a mature oak canopy — regular cleaning wins. On homes with light debris, a good-quality micromesh guard can extend the interval between cleanings. We'll give you a straight opinion based on your specific setup.

Will removing the guards damage my roof or gutters?

+

Not when it's done right. Screws come out, clips release, and slide-under guards lift free. If a system was installed with roofing nails through the shingles, we stop and warn you before doing anything that could void a roof warranty.

Do you install new gutter guards after removal?

+

No. Installation is a different trade with different warranties and materials. If you want new guards, we'll clean the gutters and refer you to a reputable local installer.

Can you clean gutters without removing the guards?

+

Sometimes. Some guards can be lifted, cleaned under, and reset. But once a guard is warped, saturated, or badly clogged, cleaning around it doesn't actually clean the gutter. We'll tell you which situation yours is.
